How to Learn the Bible with Confidence

April 1, 2020 by Deanna Cotten 2 Comments

Learn Bible with Confidence

One of the most important things your Bible study or devotional should include: A PLAN!!!

Why you need a Bible reading plan?

Think of a puzzle. When you purchase a puzzle from the store it has a picture on the front of the box. This picture is there to give you a sense of direction! The picture tells you what you will see when the puzzle is complete.

Many devotions are missing the “big picture.” You know where you want to go in your devotion time, but you need to know how to get there. You need a step by step process that will help you take the pieces you have and connect them to one another in an orderly manner. Having a plan to learn the Bible begins by building the frame.

Why the Chronological Bible reading plan is best

The major characters and events of the Bible, in historical order, represent a framework for completing your Bible puzzle. You cannot put those pieces wherever you want. They have context that needs to be understood. To understand the scriptures in full context, you must place each piece of the puzzle in it’s correct place. When you learn the Bible in scattered pieces, you run the risk of taking scripture out of context. This is why I believe the chronological overview of the Bible is the best plan you can have in place that allows you to make the most out of your devotional time.

You can learn the Bible with confidence

When you are learning God’s Word and establishing healthy study habits, you desire to feel confident in your ability to navigate and apply the scriptures to your life. You would not build a puzzle from random scattered pieces right? In the same way, you will not feel confident as a learner of God’s Word if you’re building your Bible puzzle from scattered verses.

3 Benefits of Learning the Bible with a Plan

Our goal as believers is to grow closer to God and share His love with others. Quality time in the Bible will help you with these 3 things:

  1. Process: Learning to process and understand what you are reading in the Bible means you are taking action to gain a specific result. You are reading to take your learning and application to the next level.
  2. Retain: In order to take your Bible application up a level, retention of scripture is a must! Look at it as writing God’s Word on your heart. The more you are in the Bible with an orderly plan, the easier is to remember what you are learning.
  3. Apply: As you learn how the scriptures piece together like a puzzle, it becomes easier to uncover God’s character. The purpose of applying the scriptures to your life for growth is to become more like Jesus. To become more like your master teacher, you need to know His character. God’s character will naturally be revealed as you place each piece of the Bible puzzle within the frame!
