How to Memorize Scripture

June 15, 2020 by Deanna Cotten Leave a Comment

How to memorize scripture

Many Christians struggle with memorizing scripture. So, is it really important to memorize verses? Scripture memory plays a vital role your spiritual growth as a Christian so YES, it does matter! The most creative way to memorize scripture is through hand writing.

When you commit God’s Word to memory, you are hiding God’s Word in your heart, SO THAT you will not sin against the Lord.

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)

Memorizing scripture is important for spiritual growth

Scripture memorization is more than just a fun idea or something you did in Sunday school to win a tootsie roll. Remember Sunday school? Memorizing scripture felt like fun and games. However, you were really being trained to grow as a follower of Christ.

Writing the Bible on your heart

The most important reason you should have the scriptures written on your heart is so you can recall it quickly and recite the Bible. Creative application gives you a hands on way of expressing what you are learning in the Bible. One of my favorite hands on way of learning the Bible is through scripture writing!

Handwriting is also great exercise and helps to improve hand eye coordination.

Writing Scripture will help retain and recall information is backed up by scientific proof! Did you know that you are five times more likely to retain and apply what you are learning if you write it down! Reciting God’s Word is more than just saying the words out loud, even more so, it will be lived out in your circumstances, decisions and everyday conversations.

Writing God’s Word for spiritual growth

Simply said You are called to LIVE OUT your faith.

Memorizing scripture is the first step you need to begin writing God’s Word on the tablet of your heart. But, memorizing scripture may feel more overwhelming than it needs to be.
